Week 11
Hello Ramsay Families,
Reminders:
On Monday, our class had the opportunity to work with Monica Ila to complete our portion of the collaborative art fence project. I have attached a few examples of student work below. We are really looking forward to seeing this project come together as a school.
Math
Learning Intentions:
- I can solve problems involving whole numbers and decimal numbers.
- I can use estimation strategies in problem-solving contexts.
In Math this week, we continued our work with decimal numbers. Grade 5 students practiced their estimation strategies, while working on adding and subtracting decimals. They were then asked to check their answers using the inverse operation. Grade 6 students worked on multiplying decimals (2 x1), as well as by powers of 10. Next week, grade 5s will continue to practice addition and subtraction of decimals through problem-solving contexts, while grade 6s will learn how to multiply two-digit by 2-digit decimal numbers.
Remembrance Day
On Wednesday, November 10th, students in grades 4-6 hosted our virtual school-wide Remembrance Day ceremony. MCs from both classes led the assembly, and they shared the history and importance of Remembrance Day. Students from each class also shared their learning and work around this important event through songs, poems and writing. Several students in grade 5/6 also individually read their written poems. Everyone did a wonderful job respectfully honouring our veterans throughout the event! Our classroom work is now on display at the school for all students to view.
Veteran’s Food Bank
Thank-you so much to all the families that contributed to our Veteran’s Food Bank. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Before the donations are picked up next week, students in our grade 2/3 classes will be tallying the contributions so they can share the total of Ramsay student donations.
