Science

This week, the grade 5/6s had the opportunity to attend a field trip at the Youthlink Police Interpretive Centre. During the months of March and April, students have been learning about forensic science and the many types of evidence that are used by police when investigating a crime scene. The day before the trip, students were provided with a message from Constable Jess about the crime they would be solving at Youthlink. Additionally, they were provided with HAWCS video footage of the scene and a witness statement from the neighbour. During the afternoon portion of the trip, students analyzed evidence collected from the scene and then collaborated with their team to decide and explain theories and motives.

Students also had the opportunity to investigate the many displays of information in the center and were tasked with completing a scavenger hunt. Additionally, students participated in Safe for Life programs on the topics of healthy relationships, online safety, and drug use.
