Week 30

 Math

In math this week, students continued to understand and practice solving algebraic equations.  Using all operations (add, subtract, multiply & divide), they solved single-step equations involving a single-variable. E.g. 13 + a = 24 / 15 = 26 - x / 7 x f = 35 / 49 ¸ b = 7

Students also looked at expressing a given problem as an equation in which a letter variable is used to represent an unknown number.  Once determined, students then determined the value of the variable.

ELA

During language arts this week, students continued to work on story writing by developing their skills in descriptive writing and narration. Using a dialogue structure, students first wrote a conversation between two inanimate objects, and then used descriptive narration to set the scene both before and after the interaction.  Students are currently working on their final edits to this small written assignment, and will then build upon these skills as they begin to work on writing a full story over the next few weeks.

Music Update

Grades 1-6 were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to view the Opera The Brothers Grimm performed by Calgary Opera.  This was a free virtual performance we watched during music time.  We did have a few students away and a few wanted to share it with their families.  I have attached the link which is live until April 29th at 6:00PM.  Please feel free to view it.  The program is about 50 minutes.  We will be doing follow up activities in music class next week around this performance.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email me.
