Grade 6 students were introduced to the Order of Operations (excluding exponents) and were provided practice opportunities to complete calculations requiring multiple operations within an expression.

Social Studies

In social studies, we continued our learning of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy), which means ‘People of the Longhouse.’ Students reviewed a few informational resources in order to identify several features of the longhouse structure and how clan families lived within the village. Once identified, students then documented their key understandings within their visual journal.

Science

Learning Objectives:

  • - I can identify adaptations that enable birds and insects to fly.

  • - I can describe the means of propulsion for flying animals and for aircraft.

This week in science, students examined how birds and airplanes are similar and learned about a variety of adaptations and designs that make flight possible and that provide propulsion and control. Students were asked to extract facts from an informational text and then created a sketch with 5 facts explaining the adaptations that are related to flight.
